Volleyball Recap: Lehighton Comes Up Short

Lehighton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Jim Thorpe Olympians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Olympians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 two weeks ago.

The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14.

Lehighton's offense was headlined by Laney Kershner and Julianna Ebbert, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Autumn Clewell and her 16 assists. She and Kershner didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with two apiece.

Leading Jim Thorpe to victory were Maura Malaska and Aubrey Stamets. Malaska had six digs and four aces, while Stamets had eight digs. Malaska has been hot, having also posted 16 or more assists the last seven times she's played.

Lehighton's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Jim Thorpe, the victory snapped their losing streak at three matches and leaves them with a 5-8 record.

Lehighton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Southern Lehigh on the 30th. As for Jim Thorpe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Northwestern Lehigh on the 1st.
