Basketball Game Preview: Sweeny Bulldogs vs. Needville Bluejays

Sweeny and Needville are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Sweeny Bulldogs will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Needville Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. Sweeny is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Sweeny was beaten by Wharton 90-40. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1377th, while the Tigers are ranked 641st).

Sweeny might have lost, but man, Clinton King -Varner was a machine: he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. King -Varner is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played.

Even though they lost, Sweeny smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. This was only their 16th loss (out of 19 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Meanwhile, Needville ended up a good deal behind Brazosport on Friday and lost 59-44. The defeat continues a trend for the Bluejays in their matchups with the Exporters: they've now lost six in a row.

Needville's loss dropped their record down to 9-17. As for Sweeny, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-24.
