Basketball Recap: Ryder Gorham's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mendon over St. Philip Catholic Central

Mendon lost against St. Philip Catholic Central back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mendon Hornets received a blow as they fell 58-39 to the St. Philip Catholic Central Fighting Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while the Fighting Tigers are ranked 208th).

Mendon's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryder Gorham, who posted 13 points in addition to six assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Owen Gorham, who put up 13 points and seven rebounds.

Mendon now has a losing record at 8-9. As for St. Philip Catholic Central, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mendon will venture away from home to challenge Tekonsha at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Philip Catholic Central, they are taking a road trip to face off against Maple Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in St. Philip Catholic Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matches.
