Volleyball Preview: Holgate Tigers vs. North Central Eagles
The Holgate Tigers's homestand will continue as they prepare to take on the North Central Eagles at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. Holgate will be strutting in after a victory while North Central will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Holgate finally turned things around against Delta on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over the Panthers.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Holgate took every set by at least eight points. After all that action, the final score was 25-17, 25-17, 25-16.
Holgate can attribute much of their success to Mya Tijerina, who had 15 digs, and Sylee Leaders, who had seven digs and 17 assists. Tijerina is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 15 or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season.
Holgate was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved they're ace total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, North Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Paulding.
The final score came out to 25-10, 25-17, 17-25, 25-21.
Holgate's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for North Central, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Holgate beat North Central 3-1 in their previous meeting back in September of 2023. Will Holgate repeat their success, or does North Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
