Basketball Game Preview: Latta Vikings vs. Carvers Bay Bears

Latta hasn't had much luck against Carvers Bay recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Latta Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Carvers Bay Bears at 7:30 p.m.

Last Monday, Latta came up short against Hemingway and fell 56-45.

Meanwhile, Carvers Bay waltzed into their contest on Monday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They came out on top against the Flashes by a score of 66-56. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Flashes are ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Latta better keep an eye on Kenard Heyward. He was instrumental in Carvers Bay's win, going 8 for 17 on his way to 27 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most points Heyward has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Washington, who put up nine points.

Carvers Bay pushed their record up to 16-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points over those games. As for Latta, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.

Latta was dealt a bruising 73-39 loss at the hands of Carvers Bay in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Latta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
