Basketball Recap: Mason Lopez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North over Mcallen Memorial

After flying high against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial last Monday, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North came back down to earth. The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders fell 64-53 to the McAllen Memorial Mustangs on Tuesday. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason Lopez, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Lopez has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Garza, who posted 14 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's loss dropped their record down to 14-17. As for McAllen Memorial, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-12.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing McAllen the next time they take the court. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North will head out to face McAllen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while McAllen Memorial will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
