Softball Game Preview: Alpine Bucks vs. Lamesa Tornadoes

Alpine is 0-3 against Lamesa since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Bucks will challenge the Tornadoes at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alpine has nine straight wins, Lamesa has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Alpine got the win against Kermit by a conclusive 11-1. The Bucks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Kody Hawkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Zariah Galvan and Rikki Vega did most of the damage at the plate: Galvan went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Vega got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Kacy Hawkins, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Alpine hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Lamesa came up short against Seminole on Monday and fell 17-12.

Alpine's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-14. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Lamesa, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
