Valley and Russell County are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2016, but not for long. The Rams will welcome the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Marbury, taking the game 34-21. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caden Foreman, who threw for 234 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Malachi McCullough got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Russell County never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Park Crossing, posting a 38-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Valley better keep an eye on Bryson Riggins. He was instrumental in Russell County's win, throwing for 260 yards and five TDs while completing 80% of his passes. Thanks to that big game, Riggins is now up to 16 passing touchdowns on the season. Another pass catcher making a difference was Quentin Lewis, who picked up 106 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Russell County's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB eight times. Isaiah Thomas was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Russell County's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Things could have been worse for Valley, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 45-27 loss to Russell County in their previous matchup back in September of 2024.
