Softball Recap: St. John XXIII Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Agnes Academy, St. John XXIII was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the St. Pius X Panthers. The game was the first time the Lions have beaten the Panthers on their field since March 27, 2018.

Alexa Ramirez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Emma Morrison was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Delaune, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

St. John XXIII's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3. As for St. Pius X, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7-2.

Coincidentally, St. John XXIII and St. Pius X will both be playing Concordia Lutheran the next time they take the field. St. Pius X will head out to face Concordia Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, while St. John XXIII will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
