Basketball Recap: Sophie Logan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jackson over Lamar County

Jackson lost against Lamar County two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jackson Red Devils took a 47-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lamar County Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while the Trojans are ranked 152nd).

Jackson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophie Logan, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Logan is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Cierra Moore, who posted six points and eight rebounds.

Lamar County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makayla Watts, who put up 16 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Bleu Leverett, who had 12 points and six rebounds.

Jackson is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8. As for Lamar County, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Jackson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-26 loss against Academy for Classical Education on the 20th. Lamar County and Mary Persons will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lamar County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.
