Baseball Recap: Middletown Takes a Loss

Middletown had lost eight straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it nine. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Burrillville Broncos. The Islanders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Broncos earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Evan Agren made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That double was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Carlisle, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Burrillville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Burrillville's side, their win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Furtado, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Coming up, Middletown will challenge Barrington at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Islanders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Burrillville, they will take on St. Raphael Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
