Baseball Recap: New Palestine Starts off Right with Win over Perry Meridian

New Palestine had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Perry Meridian Falcons 6-4. This was payback for the Dragons, who suffered a 1-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jacob Morris was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Gavin Neal was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liam Atkinson, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Looking ahead, New Palestine will head out to face off against Indian Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Perry Meridian, they will be taking part in a tournament against Lawrence Central at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
