Softball Game Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. Pieper Warriors

New Braunfels has gone a perfect 3-0 against Pieper recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The New Braunfels Unicorns will square off against the Pieper Warriors at 11:00 a.m. New Braunfels is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

New Braunfels took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Boerne, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. New Braunfels sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Boerne on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Unicorns have posted since February 27th.

Cecilia De Los Santos was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. De Los Santos was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mikayla Wilson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Isabel Cruz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Pieper came up short against Boerne on Friday and fell 14-10.

New Braunfels pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Pieper, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

New Braunfels beat Pieper 9-5 when the teams last played back in February. Will New Braunfels repeat their success, or does Pieper have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
