Basketball Recap: Omaha Northwest Huskies vs. Pius X Thunderbolts

The Omaha Northwest Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Pius X on the road and fell 64-23. Omaha Northwest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-8.

When it comes to explaining why Omaha Northwest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jessica Houston. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Omaha Northwest struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pius X posted 15 assists.

Pius X got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sara Iburg out in front who scored 14 points along with two steals. Ava Markowski was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.

Omaha Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Pius X, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.

Omaha Northwest will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Patriots. Millard South is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Pius X, they and the Links will face off at 5:45 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lincoln High will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Thunderbolts are ranked 37th).
