Baseball Recap: First Baptist Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Oakridge, First Baptist was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Prestonwood Christian North. This was payback for the Saints, who suffered a 7-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Marc Gutierrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits.

On the hitting side, Preston Gough was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

First Baptist is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. Prestonwood Christian North's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.

First Baptist will have a chance to go back-to-back against Prestonwood Christian North: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
