Basketball Recap: Mantachie Takes a Loss

Mantachie lost against Walnut back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mantachie Mustangs might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Walnut Wildcats an easy 62-41 win. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Wildcats are ranked 45th).

Mantachie's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Walnut, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mantachie will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Falkner at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Walnut, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Walnut Wildcats duke it out with the Nettleton Tigers at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Walnut is facing Nettleton at the right time seeing as Nettleton is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
