University has gone 9-1 against Sterling recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. University knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Sterling likes a good challenge.
University will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Eaton, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Reds by a score of 10-7 on Monday. University's win was all the more impressive since the Reds were averaging only 3.86 runs allowed on the season.
Will Korby made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Isaac Dellinger was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Turk, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run.
University hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Saturday. Sterling won by a run and slipped past Bennett 7-6. Sterling hasn't had any issues with Bennett recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Dayten DiOrio was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. DiOrio was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Aiden Ortega and Conner Gemaehlich did most of the damage at the plate: Ortega got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Gemaehlich went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Gemaehlich has snagged this season.
Sterling's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
University took their victory against Sterling in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
