Baseball Recap: Tarpon Springs Comes Up Short

Tarpon Springs was the 3-2 winner over Seminole when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Spongers fell just short of the Warhawks by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Spongers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mycroft Newkirk was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has become a key player for Tarpon Springs: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Tarpon Springs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dereck Tyler, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Tarpon Springs' loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Seminole, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Tarpon Springs will head out on the road to challenge St. Petersburg Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spongers are facing the Barons at the right time seeing as the Barons are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Seminole, they will welcome Osceola at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
