Baseball Game Preview: Hopewell Titans vs. Cox Mill Chargers

The Hopewell Titans will challenge the Cox Mill Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopewell will be strutting in after a win while Cox Mill will be coming in after a loss.

Hopewell's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over West Charlotte. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won six games by 15 runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Cox Mill unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 10-4 to Mooresville.

Cox Mill got a good showing from Mason Hill, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Hill has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tyler Cartee made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Trendyn Motley was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Hopewell has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Cox Mill's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.

Hopewell was able to grind out a solid win over Cox Mill when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 8-3. Will Hopewell repeat their success, or does Cox Mill has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
