The Mobile Christian Leopards will head out to take on the Gulf Shores Dolphins at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Mobile Christian has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Mobile Christian saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell just short of IMG Academy Gray by a score of 2-1. The match marked the Leopards' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Maddox McKinion was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Damian Gatson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gulf Shores, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Elberta 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Dolphins in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.
John Will Nix looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gulf Shores saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob O'Bryan, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Tres Moore also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Gulf Shores pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Mobile Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mobile Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gulf Shores struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mobile Christian couldn't quite finish off Gulf Shores when the teams last played back in April of 2023 and fell 8-6. Can Mobile Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
