Basketball Recap: Yucaipa's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Yucaipa extended their winning streak to four on Monday, bumping them up to 4-0. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 57-51 W against the La Quinta Blackhawks. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 70-52 last Friday.

Yucaipa can attribute much of their success to Mason Lazzar, who shot 43% from the field on his way to 19 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Those five boards gave Lazzar a new career-high. Van Johnson also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Yucaipa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

As for La Quinta, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points over those games.

Despite the loss, La Quinta still got an impressive performance from Roman Ansley, who almost dropped a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. With that strong performance, Ansley is now averaging an impressive 17 points per game. Another player making a difference was Nathan Landin, who posted ten points.

Coincidentally, Yucaipa and La Quinta will both be playing Rancho Verde the next time they take the court. The Thunderbirds will head out to face the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Blackhawks will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
