Basketball Recap: Ladan Weinman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hobart over Wheeler

Hobart was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They took a 50-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wheeler Bearcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Brickies of the 28-26 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Hobart lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ladan Weinman, who went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Weinman a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Riley Weber, who posted six points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hobart smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wheeler only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.

Wheeler found their leader in freshman Kylie Simpson, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 17 points along with six boards and three steals. Brooklynne Jolliff was another key player, putting up nine points and five blocks.

Hobart's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Wheeler, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-15.

Hobart will head out to face off against Hammond Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hammond Central will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Hobart surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wheeler, they will face off against Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th.
