Softball Recap: Kirtland Wins Going Away Against Harding

Kirtland's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Harding Skippers 25-4. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hornets considering their two-run performance the game before.

Grace Mastrangelo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Mastrangelo was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maggie Kothera, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, five runs, and five RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Karli DiFranco, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Kirtland now has a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kirtland will take on Chagrin Falls at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Harding, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pymatuning Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup will give the Skippers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
