Baseball Recap: Mattawan Gets the Win

Mattawan's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Joseph Bears an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 11 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

St. Joseph's batters probably weren't too happy with Maxx Vanantwerp, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (he gave up a single walk). Vanantwerp has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, John Pelak was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Willis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Mattawan's victory bumped their record up to 20-5-1. As for St. Joseph, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Mattawan will have a chance to go back-to-back against St. Joseph: the pair will be back at it again later today.
