Basketball Recap: Hampton Park Christian Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

If Lake Pointe Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Hampton Park Christian, they should've done a better job of containing Trevor Gearhart. Hampton Park Christian walked away with a 56-43 win over the Lake Pointe Academy Mariners on Friday thanks in part to Gearhart, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 17 boards. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Hampton Park Christian's points.

Spencer Burke was another key player, putting up nine points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (three).

Lake Pointe Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Jacobs, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Stewart Settle, who put up 13 points.

Hampton Park Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Lake Pointe Academy, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Hampton Park Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-48 defeat against Bob Jones Academy on the 16th. As for Lake Pointe Academy, they will venture away from home to take on UR Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (UR Academy has won three straight at home, while Lake Pointe Academy won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
