Softball Preview: Grovetown Warriors vs. Archer Tigers
The Grovetown Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Archer Tigers at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Grovetown comes in on 19 and Archer on eight.
Last Tuesday, Grovetown made easy work of Heritage and carried off a 15-2 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Josalyn Sergent was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in September of 2023. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Sam Story and Iman Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Story scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Wright went 1-for-1 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Scarlet Gibb, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Grovetown didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with nine strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage didn't tossed any.
Meanwhile, Archer never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Collins Hill as Archer made off with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 15 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Grovetown pushed their record up to 19-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Archer, their record now sits at 16-2.
Grovetown came out on top in a nail-biter against Archer in their previous meeting back in August, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grovetown since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
