Basketball Recap: Gabou (Ben) Camara's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Aurora Central over Gateway

Aurora Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gateway Olympians. The Trojans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Olympians earlier this season, when they won 79-54.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gabou (Ben) Camara, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 11 points along with seven boards and three blocks. That's the most points Camara has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Christ Tah, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Aurora Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gateway to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryan Lozano, who had eight points in addition to eight boards and seven assists. Lozano is becoming a predictor of Gateway's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 6-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Nkosi Hunt, who en route to 13 points and three steals.

Aurora Central's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Gateway, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-14.

Aurora Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 67-42 victory against Adams City on the 20th. As for Gateway, they have also already played their next contest, a 57-56 win against Thornton on the 20th.
