Basketball Recap: Royal Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Zaelyn Shelton and Braylon Reado

Royal fought the good fight in their overtime game against Lamar Consolidated on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lamar Consolidated Mustangs by a score of 56-53. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-29 back in November.

Royal's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Braylon Reado, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds, and Zaelyn Shelton, who made all 5 shots he took to post 13 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mikey Lang, who posted 11 points.

Mason Lockett was the offensive standout of the contest as he went 8 of 17 on his way to 23 points and eight rebounds. The matchup was his third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Riq Lane, who had eight points and five assists.

Royal's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Lamar Consolidated, they pushed their record up to 5-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Royal didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-59 loss against Rudder on the 10th. As for Lamar Consolidated, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-45 victory against Wharton on the 11th.
