Basketball Recap: Mentor Beats Villa Angela-St. Joseph for Their Fourth Straight Win

Mentor had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They walked away with an 81-68 victory over the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings. The Cardinals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vikings, too.

Mentor got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kobe Frasure-Azzano out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Frasure-Azzano is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Kennedy, who posted 15 points along with seven assists and three steals.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jeremiah Martin, who went 10 of 19 en route to 24 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Brown, who went 10 for 15 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds.

Mentor's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-7.

Mentor will venture away from home to face off against Shaker Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they will welcome Cleveland Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
