Basketball Recap: West Iredell Beats East Lincoln for Their Second Straight Win

East Lincoln came into Friday's match looking for another win against West Iredell, but Jordan Patterson wouldn't allow it. The West Iredell Warriors came out on top against the East Lincoln Mustangs by a score of 69-56 on Friday thanks in part to Patterson, who went 11 of 17 on his way to 30 points along with six boards and four steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of West Iredell's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Cornelius, who went 6 for 7 en route to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards he has posted since back in December of 2023.

East Lincoln's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Dollar, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Christian Atkins, who posted 12 points and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for West Iredell and bumps their season record up to 11-9. As for East Lincoln, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season.

West Iredell will head out on the road to take on Statesville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Iredell knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Statesville likes a good challenge. As for East Lincoln, they will be playing at home against Foard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Lincoln is facing Foard at the right time seeing as Foard is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
