Basketball Recap: Taylor Darden's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Garner over NC GBB Academy National

If South Garner was riding high fresh off their 59-35 takedown of Dudley last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Titans fell 66-57 to the NC GBB Academy National Eagles on Saturday. The Titans were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Several Titans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Darden, who shot 55% from the field to rack up 13 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. Those blocks marked the first that Darden has posted this season. Harleigh Clark was another key player, going 5-for-9 on her way to 11 points and seven rebounds.

It was another big night for Amayah Barnes, who shot 44% from the field en route to 28 points along with seven boards and six assists for NC GBB Academy National. Barnes' big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tia Bryant, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, South Garner fell to 3-1. As for NC GBB Academy National, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Coming up, South Garner will square off against Cleveland at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for NC GBB Academy National, they have already played their next matchup, a 73-37 victory against Bishop O'Connell on the 7th.
