Basketball Recap: Plainview Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Plainview won the last time they faced Holy Savior Menard and things went their way on Monday too. The Plainview Hornets rang in the new year with an 86-74 victory over the Holy Savior Menard Eagles. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Eagles are ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Holy Savior Menard saw an underclassman step up: freshman Peyton Procell shot 7-for-13 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Procell has scored all season. Baylor Smith was another key player, going 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points.

Plainview pushed their record up to 16-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.3 points per game. As for Holy Savior Menard, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainview will head out to face off against LaSalle at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Holy Savior Menard, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hicks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
