Softball Recap: Montabella Takes a Loss

Montabella lost against Merrill back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mustangs lost 13-5 to the Vandals. The Mustangs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Montabella saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Kauffman, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Brianne Porter also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Montabella's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Merrill, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-4.

Montabella and Merrill could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Mustangs (ranked 239th) will meet Holton (ranked 115th) at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Merrill will square off against Ithaca at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (187 vs. 14).
