Baseball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Coldwater's Winning Streak

Coldwater dropped their record down to 19-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's 19-game streak of wins. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wapakoneta Redskins. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redskins apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

As for Wapakoneta, their win bumped their record up to 13-3. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Wapakoneta's part, Daron Houser made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Houser has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joel Moore, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Mericle, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Coldwater will welcome New Bremen at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wapakoneta, they will head out to challenge Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
