Basketball Recap: Poudre Community Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Brooklyn Speer and Hayden Belmont

Poudre Community Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 24th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Ascent Classical Academy Guardians, falling 42-16. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Guardians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-17 last Wednesday.

Hayden Belmont and Brooklyn Speer certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Belmont posted six points along with 11 blocks and five rebounds, while Speer scored two points and 20 boards. The dominant performance gave Belmont a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Tori Howe, who put up two points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Poudre Community Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 35 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Poudre Community Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Ascent Classical Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-10.

Poudre Community Academy has already played their next contest, a 32-11 defeat against STEM School Highlands Ranch on the 27th. As for Ascent Classical Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 25-23 win against Aurora West College Prep Academy on the 26th.
