Volleyball Recap: James Monroe Starts Season with Win Against Williamstown

James Monroe had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Williamstown Yellowjackets on Thursday. For the Mavericks, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 victory the Yellowjackets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day James Monroe got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-20, 17-25, 25-19.

Aliyah Clarkson paced James Monroe's offense, picking up 11 kills. Clarkson got some help from Skylar Clarkson and her 11 assists. Ava Pitzer controlled things from the service line, finishing with seven aces.

James Monroe has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against Charleston Catholic on the 21st. As for Williamstown, they will head out to take on Oak Glen at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
