Softball Game Preview: Dobson Mustangs vs. West Point Dragons

The Dobson Mustangs will face off against the West Point Dragons at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Dobson took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Apollo with a sharp 16-6 victory. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Allie Hanson was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Hanson was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

In other batting news, Kiley Beard was incredible, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Shaylee Peshlakai was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Dobson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, West Point made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cesar Chavez on Thursday. Everything went West Point's way against Cesar Chavez as West Point made off with an 18-3 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Dragons this season.

Dobson's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for West Point, they moved to 4-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Dobson skirted past West Point 5-4 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Dobson repeat their success, or does West Point have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
