Basketball Game Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Smoky Hill Buffaloes

The Overland Trailblazers will venture away from home to face off against the Smoky Hill Buffaloes at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Overland is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Overland lost to Cherokee Trail at home by a 60-46 margin. While losing is never fun, the Trailblazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Cougars are ranked ninth).

Meanwhile, Smoky Hill played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 65-15 loss at the hands of Grandview. The Buffaloes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-2.

Yamani Perez was Smoky Hill's leading scorer, having posted four points.

Smoky Hill has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Overland, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.

Everything came up roses for Overland against Smoky Hill in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured an 82-19 victory. Will Overland repeat their success, or does Smoky Hill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
