Matanzas came tearing into Tuesday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the West Nassau Warriors a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past LEAH STEVENS, who gave up just five hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep West Nassau off the board. STEVENS has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

Matanzas hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive games.

Matanzas' win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for West Nassau, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.

Matanzas and West Nassau are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Pirates will be playing at home against Englewood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Matanzas is facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for West Nassau, they will square off against Yulee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 2.4, the Hornets 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
