Football Game Preview: Spring Grove Rockets vs. Muhlenberg Muhls

The Spring Grove Rockets will face off against the Muhlenberg Muhls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Muhlenberg took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Spring Grove, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Spring Grove didn't have too much trouble with South Western as they won 26-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.

A big part of Spring Grove's victory came down to the chemistry between Davis Baum and his top target Bredon Smith. Baum rushed for 78 yards and one TD while Smith gained 110 total yards and two touchdowns.

Spring Grove didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited South Western to a completion percentage of just 38.9%. The team can thank Andrew Gerber for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Spring Grove; they were averaging 62.9%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 62.9%.

Spring Grove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jordan Eisenhart and Davon Melbourne. Melbourne is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as he's now defended at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, Muhlenberg came up short against Conestoga Valley on Friday, falling 45-24. While losing is never fun, the Muhls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Buckskins are ranked 35th).

Muhlenberg's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Spring Grove, their record now sits at 7-3.

Spring Grove took their win against Muhlenberg in their previous meeting back in August of 2018 by a conclusive 35-13 score. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Muhls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
