Basketball Recap: Emerald Takes a Loss

Emerald lost against Southside back in February of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Emerald Vikings lost 55-30 to the Southside Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Vikings have suffered against the Tigers since January 27, 2015.

Despite the loss, Emerald saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jurnee Williams dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played dating back to last season.

Emerald has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Southside, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Emerald will challenge Fountain Inn at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southside, they will square off against Wren at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
