Baseball Game Preview: Newark Reds vs. Wayne Eagles

Newark is 2-8 against Wayne since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Reds will host the Eagles at 5:00 p.m.

Newark fell victim to Wayne and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 9-0 to the Eagles.

For Wayne's part, Benjamin Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Smith was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aidan Twist was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Caleb Celso, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

The victory keeps Wayne at an undefeated 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average this season. As for Newark, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
