After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Riverdale Ridge, Westminster was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Skyview Wolverines by a score of 9-4. This was payback for the Wolves, who suffered a 12-11 loss the last time these two teams met.
Robert Atencio made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Diego Yanos was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. Michael Alcantor was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.
Westminster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Westminster's record now sits at 11-8. As for Skyview, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-10.
Coming up, Westminster will welcome Horizon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Skyview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
