Weekend's wildest high school football games

Panhandle, Tulia combine for nearly 1,300 yards of offense in one of the weekend's wildest games.

The weekend had its fill of wild and crazy contests including overtime thrillers, high-scoring games and offensive yardage outbursts.

Here are a few that stood out.

Tulia had 739 yards of offense and lost to Panhandle, but nearly completed an incredible comeback. Panhandle led 41-6 with four minutes left in the first half when Tulia made a run and pulled within three points with four minutes left in the game. Neither team was able to score the rest of the way, however, preserving the win for Panhandle. Jon Martinez completed 29 of 41 passes for 511 yards for Tulia while Brandon Jackson ran 29 times for 228 yards. Panhandle quarterback Tyler Hall threw for 362 yards and five touchdowns. The two teams combined for nearly 1,300 yards of offense.

Fort Dale Academy (Greenville, Ala.) 55
Autauga Academy (Prattville, Ala.) 54




The two teams combined for 1,145 yards of offense, including 577 by Fort Dale and 568 by Autauga Academy. John Michael Sweatt completed 23 of 32 passes for 369 yards and four touchdowns for Autauga. Ryan Burkett ran 19 times for 126 yards and four touchdowns for Fort Dale while Chip Taylor rushed 18 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed 10 of 18 passes for 182 yards.

Ramona (Riverside, Calif.) 54
Shadow Hills (Indio, Calif.) 53
The two teams went to two overtimes before Ramona stopped Shadow Hills running back Isaiah Ortega-Dage short on the two-point conversion. Ortega-Dage had a huge night, rushing 31 times for 196 yards and six touchdowns and catching three passes for 90 yards, including a 71-yard reception with 54 seconds left to tie the game at 47-47. Ramona had two touchdowns on returns, including a 97-yard return by Henry Batista to start the game and a 10-yard punt return.

Clear Springs (League City, Texas) 53
Eisenhower (Houston) 50
Matt Guidry ran for 204 yards and had 184 receiving yards to lead Clear Springs over Eisenhower. Quarterback Zach Cripps completed 11 of 16 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns. Donald Catalon led Eisenhower with 202 yards rushing and two touchdowns.



Palmetto Christian Academy (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) 56
Hilton Head Prep (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) 50
Tyler Fox threw six touchdown passes for Hilton Head Prep, completing 26 of 41 passes for 267 yards. But it wasn't enough in a 56-50 loss to Palmetto Christian. J.T. Waters ran 40 times for 221 yards and four touchdowns and also threw for 116 yards and a touchdown. Teammate Ryan Roe rushed 21 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns. For Hilton Head Prep, Noah Sulek caught 10 passes for 153 yards and four touchdowns.

Ben Davis (Indianapolis) 49
Pike (Indianapolis) 48
Ben Davis got an extra point from Danny Alvarez in overtime to edge Pike. Cody Turpin, in his first high school start, according to the Indy Star, completed 16 of 34 passes for 223 yards and touchdown to lead Ben Davis. For Pike, Brent Lyles completed 14 of 27 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns. Dominique Booth caught seven passes for 138 yards and three scores.

Fairless (Navarre, Ohio) 49
Manchester (Akron, Ohio) 48
Fairless had not defeated Manchester in 27 years, but it stopped a two-point conversion attempt in a third overtime period to secure a 49-48 win. Hunter Wells completed 26 of 55 passes for 389 yards and four touchdowns for Fairless while Mason Hayes had four rushing touchdowns for Manchester.

Sacred Heart (Salina, Kan.) 62
Sedgwick (Kan.) 48
Nick Wuthnow ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 173 yards and three touchdowns for Sacred Heart. Trevor Webb also added a 76-yard kickoff return for a score. For Sedgwick, Brylie Ware was 17 of 31 for 237 yards and two touchdowns while Dalton Brandt ran for 155 yards and two scores.
