Basketball Game Preview: Vanlue Wildcats vs. McComb Panthers

Vanlue hasn't had much luck against McComb recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Vanlue Wildcats face off against the McComb Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Vanlue is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Saturday. The matchup between them and Temple Christian didn't end well, with Vanlue falling 65-51.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Owen Roszman, who posted 12 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last five games he's played. Landon Saltzman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, McComb was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-58 heartbreaker at the hands of Waynesfield-Goshen. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (57), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Vanlue's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for McComb, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-13.

Vanlue came up short against McComb when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 58-46. Can Vanlue avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
