Softball Recap: Walden Grove Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Walden Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eastmark Firebirds on Friday, sneaking past 8-6.

Maddie Holzer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Walden Grove let Isabel Higuera and Natalie Holzer run wild. Higuera went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Holzer went 2-for-3 with two runs. Another player making a difference was Hannah Montijo, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Walden Grove's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Eastmark, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-7.

Coming up, Walden Grove will head out on the road to challenge Ironwood Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Nighthawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Red Wolves surely won't give up without a fight. As for Eastmark, they will venture away from home to square off against Poston Butte at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Firebirds will need to watch out since the Broncos have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
