Softball Game Preview: Jonathan Alder Pioneers vs. Urbana Hillclimbers

Jonathan Alder has gone a perfect 8-0 against Urbana recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Pioneers are taking a road trip to take on the Hillclimbers at 5:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jonathan Alder has three straight victories, Urbana has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Jonathan Alder proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 12) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past London 8-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Taryn Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley Magginis, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Rosie Timberlake also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Urbana lost 19-7 to Jonathan Alder.

Morgan Boyd was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Jazmyn Scott was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

The win got Jonathan Alder back to even at 7-7. As for Urbana, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.

Everything went Jonathan Alder's way against Urbana in their previous matchup on Monday, as Jonathan Alder made off with a 19-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
