Softball Recap: Capital Comes Up Short

Capital extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Helena Bengals. The Bruins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bengals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Ella Krepps made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Helena, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Helena's side, Faith Howard spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. Howard has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Helena let Kamryn Klemp and Dakota Lieberg run wild. Klemp went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one double, while Lieberg went 2-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those four runs gave Lieberg a new career-high. Keira Campbell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Capital has already played their next game, a 12-1 loss against Russell on the 19th. As for Helena, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Belgrade on the 19th.
