Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calloway County). They came out on top against the Murray Tigers on Tuesday by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lakers considering their one-run performance the game before.
Hailee Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Jones was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Calloway County let Laynee Houk and Lyla Ward run wild. Houk went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Ward got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Houk a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee McLeod, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Calloway County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Murray only managed four hits.
Calloway County's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-20. As for Murray, their record is now 2-11.
Coming up, Calloway County will square off against Madisonville-North Hopkins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Murray, they will take on Stewart County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
