Volleyball Recap: Waukee Warriors vs. Ankeny Centennial Jaguars
Waukee faced Ankeny Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Warriors took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. The Warriors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Jaguars from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.
Waukee started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-12.
Among those leading the charge was Mya Lei Butters, who had ten digs and seven assists. She has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last four times she's played. Adi Reyes also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Waukee's loss ended a three-match streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4. As for Ankeny Centennial, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Waukee will head out to challenge Dowling Catholic on Thursday. As for Ankeny Centennial, after both having extra time off, they and Johnston will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
